The St. Patrick’s Cross is one of the oldest of the great Irish High Crosses, dating from the 7th century. It stands over 3 metres tall in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal. At the bottom of the carving, there are three pilgrims. In the middle is Christ with the four Evangelists, and at the top there is a beautiful interlacing pattern, which is often used in Celtic art to suggest the ineffable.
Christ be with me, Christ be before me, Christ be behind me, Christ be within me. From St Patrick’s Prayer.
This original design was carved by Studio co-founder Kathleen Smyth, which has a carefully polished pure bronze finish with a ceramic resin cold cast pouring.
